According to the Clean Fuels Development Coalition, ethanol has assumed an increasing important role in the energy mix. The Coalition reports that the efficiency of ethanol production increases every day, with more ethanol being produced and less energy being used to produce it. In 2007, the industry increased its annual production to 6.5 billion gallons. By 2022, ethanol and bio-fuels production will top 36 billion gallons annually to meet the Renewable Fuels Standards established by Congress last year.
There are approximately 140 operating ethanol plants with another 70 under construction. By 2022, there will be estimated 230 ethanol/bio-fuels plants. The production of ethanol not only reduces
